Panasonic are entering the ruggedized tablet market later this year with a Toughbook Android Tablet which they are calling an ‘Enterprise-grade Android’ device. It will offer hardware level encryption, a 10.1 inch XGA screen, GPS, 3G/4g connectivity and comes with a stylus.

Rugged Android Smartphones and Tablets

We are now starting to see a few ‘rugged’ Android devices appear in the market such as theĀ  Motorola Defy and the Casio Commander. As time goes on I think we will start seeing more and more rugged smartphones and tablets being released that use Android OS rather than the venerable Windows Mobile platform. We should soon be seeing devices with much better technical specifications too as dual core mobile processors become the norm with at least 1GB RAM.
