Panasonic are entering the ruggedized tablet market later this year with a Toughbook Android Tablet which they are calling an ‘Enterprise-grade Android’ device. It will offer hardware level encryption, a 10.1 inch XGA screen, GPS, 3G/4g connectivity and comes with a stylus.

HP are soon to release their TouchPad. A 9.7 inch tablet device with a dual core 1.2Ghz Snapdragon processor, 16/32GB storage and a 768 x 1024 pixel screen. For those of you fed up with wiping off the finger prints from your tablet or smartphone, or those of you that need to capture signatures or do some sketching on your device you might want to consider using a capacitive stylus. They are now quite robust and can be found at a very reasonable price. Have a look at Griffin Technology for example who offer styluses in black and a variety of other colours.

IBM seems to consider the iPad and other tablets as real corporate mobile computing devices. IBM will lease the Apple iPad and tablets from other manufacturers for about 20$ dollars a month. The typical lease period will last two to three years. If you don’t fancy an iPad they are also offering RIM’s Playbook and Android based tablets.

Apparently many corporate iPad users don’t know why they have them. A recent survey has revealed that businesses prefer iPad tablets as a corporate device. However, 50% of those organizations had no mobile strategy in place! The other half appears to have seen the benefits of mobilizing paper based processes and becoming more efficient through using mobile technology.
Of those asked, 83% said that the Apple iPad was the favourite device in their organization.
